Watching the world cup in style.

May 26, 2010

Since the World Cup is on the way, we put a few of our collected pieces of furniture to use. Outdoor football tv watching is pretty awesome and if the weather holds up then it will be done again. Also Benny has been collecting his World Cup stickers and World Cup wall chart. We are ready to go! Are you…………..?

The Seed Cathedral

May 4, 2010

I think back in my Ziggurat days a design was mentioned for the UK Pavilion at the Shanghai World Expo. Thousands of rods sticking out the side of the building done by a famous artist I was told. Doing my ‘dont want to look clueless’ thing, I smiled and nodded as A. I had never heard of the World Expo B. Had no idea what these pavilions were.

Spaghetti stuff

April 16, 2010

So a while back I posted about my NYC Spaghetti being on The Dieline.

At a similar time I also entered it into their awards that they had just started up this year.

FWA People choice website 2009

April 13, 2010

Labuat is a Spanish music band, formed in 2008. In 2009, Labuat released their debut album, with a single called “Soy tu aire”, which translates to “I’m your air”. There idea was to create a website for the single so that you could create your own music video. This got the accolade of People Choise website 2009 FWA (also a brilliant website and design tool).

Although it is in Spanish, roughly translated the opening paragraph means …

…’I’m your air’ is a song filled with many orchestras instruments and a voice of truth and lies. And we wanted to give you something you could move with the song. A brush because ‘I’m your air’ here is painted in the air. Move your cursor wherever you want, during the song. When finished you can view your recorded video and your own work and playback…

This is a beautifully crafted and designed website and really deserves 5 minutes of your time, click here to create yours.

Barrow: Part_1

April 5, 2010

Who said wheelbarrows couldn’t be inspirational …

… April 3rd started with typical drinking games and by the end of the night ended up with all three of us in cowboy costumes in a pub, which proves student designers can try and do there best to be creative when border line unconscious. On the way home brought ‘more’ creativity when we spotted a wheelbarrow, which gave us an alternative mode of transport for the journey home.

It was the day after the night before when we all rose and shone from our pits to find a wheelbarrow in the middle of the kitchen. Living in a student house, the practicality of us having a reason to use it again are pretty much null. So the scratching of heads began.

Barrow: Part_2

April 5, 2010

So there it was …

… a perfect evening, clear skies, sitting around an open fire in a wheelbarrow with marshmallows and listening to iTunes playing the perfect acoustic music (another good reason to get the alcohol flowing).

When all of a sudden Bennys creative veins sparked into life again. With the smoke fumes clearly going to his head he came up with the idea of creating a typeface simply from the glow of a flame and a simple photography trick. Who ever said drinking irresponsibly didn’t get you anywhere?

Brick Lane and onwards

February 28, 2010

This weekend another UcLan placement student Megan visited us for the weekend, so we decided to go out an about and have a look at Shoreditch/Brick Lane. Which I hadn’t been to before. I have been told about the pretentious nature of the people in Shoreditch… and Brick Lane. Lots of vintage clothes shops, art galleries and knock off banksy t-shirts. I didnt much like alot of it. BUT there was some amazing graffiti and interesting typography around and about.

A big thanks to our tutor &y B for this inspirational piece of art, and also for saving us £10 a week on travel. This will be used to help with more frequent pub visits. It’s our ‘Texture’ of the week!

Aids: Graffiti (Rated 18)

February 3, 2010

Whilst working at Felton, i was doing some research for a poster campaign, which is aimed at the gay population, on the subject avoiding HIV in relationships. I came across this advertisement, I loved it! So thought i’d share it with you. This video is a bit erotic and sexual so not safe to watch at work or for people under the age of 18.
